Welcome to the home page of the Spanish Network of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting (ITI). Our network comprises around 150 translators and interpreters who work into or out of Spanish, Basque, Catalan and Galician.
Most of us are based in the UK but we have members all over the Spanish-speaking world.
If you are an ITI member and wish to join the network, please go to the Join Us section. We will then contact you to complete your membership.

Translation is the rendering of written texts from one language to another. Translators usually work from one or more languages into one other, usually their native language. Sometimes they specify the dialect – e.g. Australian English or Mexican Spanish.
Translators often specialise in particular fields or offer other services. Our search facility allows you to enter key words to help you choose the most appropriate translator.
Sometimes employers, educational establishments and governmental agencies require translations to be certified. In the UK this consists of a statement by the translator stating that the translation is a true rendering of the original. Only full members (MITI) are entitled to certify translations.
In Spain translations are certified by "traductores jurados" or sworn translators.
Interpreting consists of translating orally in real time from one language to another. There are several forms of interpreting:
This is used to facilitate immediate communication between two or more parties speaking different languages. The speaker of language A stops at the end of every sentence to allow the interpreter to convey the meaning in language B. The same process is repeated for the speaker of language B so that the interpreter can convey their meaning in language A.
This form of interpreting is used in business and in courts.
The interpreter provides their rendering of the speaker’s words in the other language in a continuous flow without interruption.
This is used in conferences and meetings where several languages are required.
